Baby's First Word

Baby's First Word

Are you eager to hear your baby or toddler talk?

Many important steps lead to that special day. These are some critical pre-linguistic skills and are the foundation for talking. I teach you research-supported speech therapy strategies that strengthen all these areas, help your child talk, and grow their vocabulary in my Raising Little Talkers course.

🔸Joint attention—a triangle of attention where you and your child are both focused on the same thing and your baby is aware that you’re sharing the experience. Optimal time for learning words!

🔸Receptive language—babies must understand words before they can say them

🔸Gestures—communicating non-verbally with gestures occurs before words and is strongly linked to word use

🔸Purposeful vocalizations—babies don’t go from silence to popping out words. They need to be noisy! Babies will purposefully vocalize to get attention or draw your attention somewhere before they use speech sounds purposefully to say words.

This post was brought to you by @raisinglittletalkers. More than a toy designer, be mindful is a community of parents who are going through the process of building the best denizens of next generation.  As such we encourage and delight in our community participating in our blog and social media efforts.  Your voice will be heard across our community and who knows which kid or which parent your wisdom will enlighten!  Feel free to email us at howdy@mindful-engineering.com or submit an inquiry on our site if you have a blog post idea you want to share!
