Let's Make Girls Feel Valued For WHO They Are

Okay, real talk, it’s kind of weird to talk to toddlers — especially when they’re not your own kid (you know?). Instead of complimenting a little girl’s appearance, let’s make girls feel valued for WHO they are, not what they look like.

When girls receive positive comments mostly for their looks, they learn to prioritize appearances over internal strength and personal growth. I want my daughters to feel confident in their strength, their unique quirks, their kind souls, and their outside-the-norm minds. These qualities make a difference in the end, not a cute dress.

And listen you guys, I really, really love a cute dress in a toddler size. I die for toddler ensembles. They kill me.

And, we do want girls to feel beautiful in their skin and in the outfits they choose to self-express🌈💕(trust me, we went through a princess-dress-only stage. Elsa, whatup!?❄️).

BUT, hear me out: By complimenting a girl on an INTERNAL quality or capability (ie: how fast she can run, how brave she is, how she uses her mind and creativity), you’re helping her build the skills and self-worth she needs to be a confident, compassionate, boss woman/goddess someday💫.

So, next time you see a high energy little girl running around, or a timid girl wearing a princess dress, stroll up to her confidently, and talk about something DOPE that she created/is into/can do.

👸🏾👸🏼👸🏿👸🏽👸🏻👸🏽👸🏾👸🏻👸🏼👸🏿👸🏽 You’ve got this. We’ve got you covered.

Btw, same sentiment applies to boys too🤴🏾🤴🏼🤴🏿 Compliment them on how caring they are, explain that it's ok to feel sad or scared, and see them for their kind hearts and creative minds. When you shout-out the good, you get even more of the good stuff while growing their self-esteem sky high☁️
